On Saturday, May 1, 2010 the Downtown Development Authority of Auburn, Georgia will produce a very special event! “For the Love of Dogs” is a festival designed to pay tribute to man’s best friend; and, it is expected to draw hundreds of companion dogs and their families for a day of bonding, learning, fresh air and fun!
Demonstrations of every kind will be featured: herding, cart-pulling, tracking, obedience, drug-sniffing, military service skills of dog soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, Frisbee, agility and more!
Workshops by experts: “There’s No Excuse for Bad Manners,” “Maintaining those Pearly Whites,” “We Are What We Eat – Understanding Dog Nutrition,” are just a few.
Contests for attendees: Cutest button nose, waggiest tail, best old faithful, best look-alike to owner, biggest dog, tiniest dog, and many more!
There will be a walk for the cause: a one mile walk for dogs and their owners, the proceeds of which will go to Canine Assistants, an organization that provide dogs with the skills necessary to assist the physically and visually impaired in a home environment.
Vendors will be on hand with dog equipment, food and treats and accessories, as well as veterinarians, groomers, vacation caregivers and other dog-related businesses.
We invite all breed rescue groups and no-kill shelters with vaccinated dogs – ready for adoption – to join us for the day. Hopefully, the talents and skills of featured canine guests will inspire attendees to provide love and care for some of these wonderful dogs, who long for a family and a forever home!
